Guild of Seven Seals 2015 Winter Read

The Guild of Seven Seals has selected Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel “The Old Man and the Sea” as their 2015 Winter Read. This title will be discussed during all of the 2015 Guild brown bag lunches. It is one of Hemingway’s most enduring literary works and it played a large part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature. It is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal—a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream told in a language of great simplicity and power. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.
